An online Mother’s Day greeting I made for a dear friend.

photo courtesy of Lovely Package website
The other day my roommate brought home some of this boxed water. She wrote a note on our dry erase board that said, “You two can help yourselves to that weirdo ‘boxed water.’ It was free from work.”
I’ve seen this design before and have always liked the simplistic design of the packaging. The white background and simple type makes a clean and refreshing statement, just like the product does.
I started thinking about my roommate’s reaction to this new packaging. She thought it was strange. A co-worker wondered if what she was seeing was real. Another co-worker saw the sustainable aspect of it and called me ‘hip.’
Boxed water was originally created because they are more sustainable and can be crushed into a flat piece. Also, 90% of the packaging is made from a renewable resource, trees. Nothin’ wrong with that. I’m hoping people will get used to this idea and it will catch on.
I don’t know about you, but I’m pro boxed water.
Stay optimistic,
Lisa D
I’ve decided to start adding a bit more to this blog, as in adding things that others can learn from. I’ll start with this one way to outline a font. Thanks to Pugly Pixel for showing me this alternate solution.
STEP 1:
Use the Type tool to enter some text in your document (you can use any size document). Keep in mind; his effect will work best with a heavier font.

STEP 2:
Select the text layer you added. Add a stroke layer style by going to the bottom of the layers panel where it has an “fx” and a tiny arrow next to it. Click that, and you will find ‘stroke’ at the bottom. Feel free to play around with the size and position.

STEP 3:
Select the text layer and reduce the fill to 0%. Duplicate the text layer (shortcut: Command + J), and set the fill to 100%. Lastly, position the fill layer below the outline to create this final effect. Enjoy!

I recently made a birthday card for my mom. Since I was a little girl, she has always done sewing projects for friends as well as me and my siblings. She enjoys antiques like I do, so when I remembered I had these photos of some old Singer machines in a storefront on Michigan Avenue, I thought it would be perfect to incorporate them somehow into a birthday card for her. I added the vintage flowers because I love the idea of giving flowers to your mom for her birthday and/or for Mother’s Day. The vintage flowers came from The Graphics Fairy (http://graphicsfairy.blogspot.com/). The type is hand drawn in Photoshop, and I created the overall layout in InDesign.
My mom loved the card, and said “it looks so professional!” WIN!
Enjoy.
Be well. Stay optimistic my friends.
Hey everyone!
This is a logo I recently created for The Raven’s Chest, which is an online boutique. The Raven’s Chest sells vegan jewelry and purses (which means they use no leather in their products).
I created two different versions per the client’s request, and one will appear on the website (which is coming soon!), and one will appear on the business card.
I’m very exited about both this logo and this new local business in Chicago!
Be well and optimistic! :)

Thanks to Quartet Copies in Evanston, IL for hooking me up last week! They were friendly, got my copies to me in a timely manner and even scored my greeting cards really nicely for me! I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that! http://www.quartetcopies.com/
This cupcake card is one I made for my niece’s birthday, and will it will soon be available in my Etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/glitterbright). Look for it and more: coming soon!
This is a recent logo that I did for C.A.A.N. (Community Alliance Action Network). C.A.A.N. is a non-profit organization based in Joliet, IL providing support, education and a social network for the community.
Founded in 2005 by Tim Pierce, C.A.A.N. developed out of a desire to bring people together without the atmosphere of a bar/nightclub environment. C.A.A.N. has monthly potluck dinners/movie nights as well as various support groups and special events.
